A Sound Grip; for 2 weeks. Nov 01, 2009
By Hai T. Hoang I used this for quite awhile, that is, until it started to go dull. After about 2 weeks, the audio stopped playing loudly, instead, it started to run badly when positioned wrong at times. The part where the wire gets out at had to be adjusted manually to get sound, otherwise it would get lower again... So yeah, it died on me. It produced quite a loud and fair sound but it sounded so raw, but loud, much more louder than the NDS itself.
Make your DS lite real loud with this. Aug 24, 2009

One of the most notable flaws of the otherwise perfect DS lite are the rather low speakers... the sound is almost pathetic considering even the older DS was a bit louder.
The Sound grip attempts to solve this problem. Basically what you are buying here is a loud speaker that is shaped to fit right as a base for your DS lite. The speaker is powered by a battery similar to the one the DS lite uses, and in fact the package encourages you to use it as a replacement battery if you ever needed to. It even comes with a lil screwdriver. The speaker itself will work with anything really since it uses a regular headphone jack to output sound, but it's clearly shaped to fit the DS.
The Sound Grip overall makes the DS chunkier which obviously takes away the system's sexyness, but sort of makes it easier to hold for people with larger hands.
Another thing that comes included with the package, which IMO beats everything else, is a USB charger which works for both the Sound Grip AND the DS lite itself. It's a very convenient way to charge your DS without the need of an electric outlet.
Overall its a great product. While not necessarily a must buy, if you own games like Elite Beat Agents where listening to the music is obviously crucial to play, definitely you might want something like this. The USB charger itself is also an unexpected great inclusion.

Ever so much better than the tiny tinny little speakers the unit comes with originally. Only issue we have with it is you have to remove the speaker set to get to the stylus. Not bad for the wonderful sound you get out of the unit now.

definitely makes the DS louder. it would be nice if it had a separate volume control, but you can't seem to get fine enough granularity with just the volume control on the DS. also, don't expect super great fidelity, it just makes it so the sound is louder, which allows your kid to keep the game screen farther away from their face.
